Alex turns to Pastor Bubs at Gethsemane, while Bones Malone follows a separate trail into the lawless settlement known as the Neck. There, Jasper and Merle Shelton conceal him from Dale Brody and his armed family. Dale Brody’s search for Johnny Malone’s money erupts into violence at the Shelton property. Bones fights back, but Jasper Shelton is mortally wounded and Merle is left grieving his brother. Meanwhile, attorney Tiana Ross races toward Dawber County after learning that Deon may be in danger. Her boyfriend, corrections operative Trent Dietrich, attempts to murder her on Kinder’s orders. Johnny’s group intervenes, and Bones risks his life to pull Tiana from an alligator-filled canal. Five reluctant allies continue west together, carrying evidence that Kinder’s conspiracy reaches far beyond the prison.

Deon Childress enters Reform Correctional to investigate Kenny’s supposed death and is led into a carefully prepared trap. He discovers that the corpse labeled Kenneth Gregory belongs to another inmate—proof that Kenny is still alive somewhere inside the prison. Before Deon can escape with the truth, Kinder’s men murder him in the mortuary. Johnny and the younger generation return to Dawber County as Tiana tries to expose Kinder without becoming his next target. A surveillance photograph reaches Bo Dawber inside the prison. At Reform Correctional, officials claim Kenny Gregory committed suicide, but Mack immediately recognizes Kinder’s story as a fabrication. The investigation leads back toward Pastor Bubs, the missing fortune and Mack’s own compromised history with Johnny. Inside the prison, Bo waits while Johnny’s name spreads from cell to cell. Johnny and Bones follow Kenny’s coded map through the Everglades and locate containers hidden after the 1991 takedown. Their recovery is interrupted by a massive, scarred alligator that seizes part of the money and becomes the focus of Johnny’s obsession. Mack and Aisha follow the same trail, producing a violent collision in the mangrove tunnels. Stranded in the swamp, Mack discovers loose cash and realizes Johnny has recovered at least part of the fortune. A threatening caller from Nevada gives Mack forty-eight hours to deliver Johnny’s Swiss access information—or lose his daughter.

Lucien’s meeting is a trap. Willis, Suds and Teddy are captured inside an abandoned beverage warehouse while Bones waits outside in the Cadillac. Recognizing the danger, Bones disobeys orders, arms himself and fights his way into the building. He rescues the Maroons, prevents Willis from killing Teddy and proves that he can survive without Johnny’s protection. Willis responds by making Bones responsible for Teddy, giving him “a place in the car.” Meanwhile, Tiana protects Deon’s clients and assembles a legal shield around the younger generation. Scully confronts the family he left behind, while Mack’s Russian creditors threaten his daughter and demand Johnny’s Swiss fortune. At Tiana’s law firm, Johnny convenes an extraordinary board: Alex, Vinnie, Bones, Billy, Willis, Suds, Teddy, Phil Henderson, Tiana and Scully.
